Othon I (1815—1867) and Leopold I (1790—1865) were the first Monarchs of Modern Greece (1832—1862) and the Belgians (1831—1865), respectively. Few people know that Leopold might have become Greece's first modern King, since he was its ``Sovereign Prince'' for three months in 1830, before resigning, due to various reasons.
The way in which Othon I and Leopold I applied the relevant Constitutions of their Kingdoms (the Greek one being issued after a revolution against the Monarch, in 1844; the Belgian one being published already in 1831) was quite diverse, which is also addressed through a relevant, comparative analysis.
